Urban Food Forest

Unison has partnered with local permaculture practitioner Jacqui Van Heerden with funding provided by the City of Melbourne to create an Urban Food Forest, providing a food garden and active community space at Unison’s Kensington site.

The Food Forest has many aims around health, wellbeing, food harvesting, education and distribution, environmental sustainability and food security, with the ultimate goal being social inclusion and community connection.

The community planting day to get the Food Forest underway was a great success with Unison social and private tenants, owner occupiers and neighbours joining together to plant out fruit, berries and herbs.

When you are next in Kensington make a point of visiting the food garden and be treated to a forest including olives, limes, lemons, kiwi fruit, mandarins, apples, cherries, guava, berries, lemongrass and basil.
